Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Board Certified

Susan E. Player, APRN-BC, works in the Cumming office for Georgia Behavioral Health Professionals and has the following background:

  • Undergraduate BSN degree from the University of South Carolina, 1979
  • Worked as an intern and as a staff registered nurse for 3 different hospitals in the Charleston, SC metro area in Pediatric medical surgical and oncology units, NICU, well-baby nursery, child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry.  Also volunteered at suicide hotline
  • Served in the United States Air Force as an officer and mental health nurse at Andrews Air Force Base in the Washington, DC metro area from 1988-1991.  Served in administrative role as an officer.  Recipient of individual and group medals for work before and during First Persian Gulf War
  • Worked at the National Institutes of Health and the National Institutes of Mental Health in the Washington, DC area from 1991-1999.  Provided direct nursing care to patients and normal volunteers involved in various pediatric metabolic, mental health, and Alzheimer’s Disease research
  • Graduated with Master’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.  Inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society
  • Worked in the Food and Drug Administration, Center for Biologics and in the Center for Drugs as a Regulatory Project Manager from 1999 – 2006.  Reviewed new drug applications and led the internal review teams to new and update of existing drug approvals
  • Worked part-time and assisted in the expansion of mental health services in a nursing home and assisted living in the Washington, DC metro area
  • Moved to the Atlanta area and worked for two different pharmaceutical companies 2006 – 2009 as Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs
  • Currently working in full-time private practice under supervision with Barry N. Jones, MD at the Atlanta Addictive Disease and Psychiatric Medicine Associates
  • Member, Metro Atlanta Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nursing Group.
